wireless modem help

Post by ProvoAnC »

Ok...

Here's the deal, I was able to get my hands on a Compaq Presario F500 notebook, but no HD or OS.

I get a HD and load up XP Pro.

I go to Compaq's site and update whatever drivers they have listed.

Everything seems ok, except no wireless. When I use the HP Wireless Assistant it says the device has been disabled.

I look in device manager and properties for the WLAN. It says "Windows cannot load the device for this hardware. The driver may be corrupted or missing (Code 39)"

So I've looked for a new driver for this modem and can't find s*** that works.

It is a broadcom 802.11b/g WLAN if that makes any difference

Any help would be appreciated...

So you tried this: http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/soft ... ct=3360261

Also, is this built in or a pcmcia card?

You could try this one: http://www.soft32.com/download_180190.html

First of all f*** the wireless assistant bullshit - you can use Windows XP to manage your wireless profiles and connectivity. You need a driver for your laptop's wireless nic. If Mizzou's second link doesnt work try this...

http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/gene ... ob-38773-1

It's a generic driver for Broadcom wireless NIC cards.

Thanks for the help guys, but none of that worked.

I uninstalled the wireless assistant and installed all of the things you had links for.

I'm not sure what a pcmcia is, but it says its location is:

PCI Slot 7 (PCI bus 3, device 0, function 0)

According to broadcom's site the device is a 4311 which I couldn't find on their site using their chart to find the correct driver.

I'll try the IT guy at work when I head in later today....
