This was posted by Ian at OS because as usual people picked the few things in that preview and went over board.
Well, first of all, I don't really see this as a bad preview. Sure he can have gameplay and camera feedback about an alpha build that's in progress, but all the rest of the rather glowing praise seemed to make me feel pretty good.

Regardless, his concerns are all valid, but again all things are still very much in progress. The entirety of the pocket stuff is still being worked on and tuned...the pocket and gang tackles are our big remaining items...making sure you can't scramble out, making sure you actually get pressure, etc. Just so everyone knows, Nate was also playing on Pro mode - a mode where we are very purposely making it easier to stay in the pocket. It's quite a culture shock to have defenders right in your face after 20 years of not worrying about it.

We all know the fumble pileup thing is going to be totally subjective within the community, and though it is extremely rare (played a full 10 min qtr game yesterday, had 3 fumbles, and didn't see it), you still have the option to turn it off.

Anyway, I am hoping that you can take more away from the article - the gameplay tuning items are very valid but they are also in progress.

Very good - I like the fact that they are addressing most if not all of the major complaints people have had with the game. I don't doubt that there will still be things that could be improved but it at least looks like the effort is there.

Best wishes,

Doug

Hammond is such a bore! The way in which he announced the Dallas TD sounded so incredibly weak. I know I have to look past the commentary, as the game play is looking very nice.

That Ian guy sure seems pretty sensitive. I thought the feedback over at OS was pretty positive, but he's already taken his ball and gone home (again) due to what's been said.

The gameplay video is about what I expected. If multiple camera angles and in-game saves make it in, I'll buy the game and probably get some enjoyment out of it. If not, then I'll probably pass and just wait until next year.

This game is presented to you by Snickers, who reminds you to be a chomp-ion.

I too can't stand Hammond.

Video looked fine to me, what exactly happened with IAN? Not reading a 75 page thread to find out.

Oh and IGN had a interview to go along with the video.

Geez I can't stand twitter. It's like Live Journal with a 140 character limit.

I pooped this morning
I ate lunch
I pooped again
OS saw the video
I am taking a break from OS
I feel a poop coming on

That looks quite a bit better than 09. Much more fluid. And I liked the cutscene with the fumble.

Commentary is brutal, though. Hard to listen to that after playing The Show.

I think that's exactly why the commentary struck me as bland and robotic. The Show's commentary, while it can become repetitive over a 162 game season, just flows so smoothly.

Yep, Hammond is terrible - Collinsworth at least sounds like he's half interested. Honestly don't understand why they didn't just hire some lower priced talent like they did for 2k football. Get the feeling that they just used the same commentary as last year though.

Best wishes,

Doug

The Co-Op feature apparently may not be like OTP in NHL or FIFA.

Instead, it may be 2 vs. the CPU letting you use position-specific cameras.

They're suppose to announce a big online feature at E3 next week and there's a lot of anticipation that it's online franchise.

It that finally happened after all these years of people asking for it, it would be surprising.

But remember last year, people were excited about the announcement of online leagues, only to be let down when they found out how borked the scheduling of league games was.

You need quality talent first of all, then they need to be interested and finally you need good written material and a sound engineer who can lead these guys so it doesn't sound like cuts. Hell some of the cut sliced together are at different sound levels.

I disagree about hiring generic no names, I know I am in the minority but I hate the 2K football guys. Listen to the Show or even 2k's baseball game you can use actual talent and have it sound good.

Agreed, NBA Live, FIFA and NHL all sound great. 8)

Online draft will be fun. So will the iPhone app. Heard there was something about Facebook integration but that one is puzzling.

So they finally give long-time Madden gamers what they've been asking for years.

But it is strange that they would announce it at E3. After all, they used to dismiss it only as a niche feature that only few would use. Actually, they're probably right, because out of millions, only few thousand bother with online and a subset of that was asking for online franchise.

Maybe if they can tap into people who are into fantasy football and Madden who hadn't played Madden online much, there will be more people who try this feature out.

It sounds like a pretty ambitious thing though, with the web integration and so on. However, lot of potential for bugs or just poor execution like online leagues in Madden 09.

Honestly though, at this point, OTP would be more interesting, after the way NHL and FIFA made online sports games fresh with OTP and BAP.

I thought that the presentation shown in the video was nice....a lot of nice looking cutscenes. Hopefully there will be confirmation at E3 of in-game saves and multi-camera options.
