GOTY Thread
It's December, which means it's a good time to get this thread rolling.
Most Improved: Madden 09. It's still not as good as APF 2K8, but this year's Madden is the first next-gen version that I've actually enjoyed playing. They need to continue to work on the OL/DL interaction, and the WR/DB interaction needs a complete overhaul, but Madden was pretty, responsive and, dare I say it, fun this year.
Most Disappointing: NCAA 09. No real surprise here. What happened to this franchise, exactly, and when will EA make it stop?
GOTY: FIFA 09. NHL 09 is also a very good game and I wouldn't be surprised to see it get a lot of votes, but I almost always choose to play FIFA over it. The pace isn't quite as good as last year's game, but the player control is better, the variety of goals is excellent, and the whole experience is really very smooth. The steps this franchise has taken in the last three years are just astounding--maybe there's something to be said for having to crank out all those WC and Euro games, provided developers are going to use them to tweak the engine rather than simply churning out new covers and graphic intros.
Best non-sports game: GOW2. Kind of a default winner, as it's the only new game that has worked its way into my Halo 3/COD4 rotation. It's very worthy of being there, mind you, as GOW2 is excellent, but all in all, I haven't been taken with many of this year's offerings.
Oh, and a shout out to APF 2K8, which I continue to play regularly and absolutely love. I'm really hoping that 2K decide to pull this one out and release a 2K10 version, but it's not likely. In any event, the format of the game makes it age better than you would ever guess, and the game engine continues to be the best in the business.

The Show, and for me it's not even close. Can't wait until the beginning of March when the next one drops.
Runner up would be NHL 09. I had a lot of fun off-line with the Be A Pro mode and am looking forward to pulling the game back out once football season ends and the hockey season is a little further along.
Non-sports GOTY for me would probably be MotorStorm 2, since it's the only one I still play somewhat regularly.

GOTY (Sports): The Show, no matter what version.
Dissapointment (sports): Every other sports game aside from the Xbox1 version of Madden 09.
GOTY (non-sports): Guitar Hero World Tour (Wii). The most fun I've had with a game all year, and I don't even have a mic or drum set yet.
Honorable mention: De Blob.
Dissapointment (non sports): Lego Batman. I was really looking forward to this. I imagined it woud be my GOTY, but something went wrong. With this one they outthought themselves. The levels seemed too restrictive. Lego Star Wars and Lego Indy were fun, but Batman seemed more like work. I really didn't like the different suits and how they worked with the game.

Non SGOTY....Lich King...Runners up...Fall Out 3, GTAIV, Fable 2
GOTY (Sports): The Show(PS3).

Dissapointment (sports) Madden for PS3. UGH!!!!!
Thank's to the roster guru's at OS for the PS3/PS2 updates for NFL2K5. That made it a must have for my NFL gaming this year. Madden 09 for the PS2 is pretty good as well.

GOTY- MLB The Show (PS3). It's not close. Imo, this is my favorite sports game since the FPS Football and Baseball days. I still play it to this day.
Disapointment- Madden. I still haven't been to complete a game, without falling asleep.
Non-Sports- Fallout 3. Much like the Show, this isn't even close in my mind.

GOTY: FIFA 09. I don't think I've played a sports game this much in years. It is one of the more balanced games I've played against the AI--just when I think the AI needs bumped up, I'll get throttled 4-0 and go on a winless streak.
Non-sports: Mario Kart counts as non-sports, right? I'm having a hell of a lot of fun playing this online. Mirror's Edge is probably my runner-up, it was one of the more thrilling single player games I've played in a while, and a rarity in that I really wanted to finish and even started playing through a second time.
Disappointment: GRID.

GOTY = NHL09. I've played the EA Sports League pretty much nonstop since getting the game. Our team is 160-162-36. We went 6-1 last night alone. Great fun.
Runner Up = The Show. I am a huge baseball guy and love this game but NHL gets the nod because I simply played it more.

Considering I was playing Uncharted last Christmas I don't think it would be a game of this year.sportdan30 wrote: Non-Sports GOTY: Tie between Uncharted and Rock Band 2

Think you got the wrong thread, cut back on the Jack and cokeXXXIV wrote:My question for the head of NFL refs on the NFL network would be ...Is dealy of game a penalty anymore?
Every week I see countless play clocks expire without a call.
If it isnt a penalty lose the clock. Thanks.

Yeah, I was trying to remember when Uncharted was released. I guess I really got in to it around the beginning of the year though. So, I'll have to go with Rock Band 2 for my non-sports game of the year.
Disappointing: MLB 2K8. That game was/is atrocious. I really feel for all the 360 baseball gamers. Hopefully 2K9 will be much improved.
