First PES 2009 Info

Post by Naples39 »

Pretty scant. Just some sceenshots and vague promises. Looks like poly count on players has gone up significantly.
PES 2009 is the latest installment of the award-winning Pro Evolution Soccer Series, which is known by millions of fans for its superior gameplay and incredible realism. For PES 2009, Konami is already planning a raft of extensive new additions that will further bridge the gap between PES and the real thing.

The new game has undergone a stunning graphical update to ensure its players look and move even more like their real-life counterparts.

Similarly, all-new options allow users to tailor the game to their own tastes, while new moves, innovative new control elements and key online elements will further the realism of the new game.
http://kotaku.com/5018726/pro-evo-2009-announced

If the game can truly improve the graphics, on-field gameplay, and introduce/improve gameplay modes (as promised by Seabass last fall) then PES may be able to reassert its claim on the footie crown.

I would be shocked however if PES 2009 goes 10 player online. Looking like it's a double purchase year with both FIFA and PES for me.

Thanks for posting this. Graphically, it looks like an enormous leap...

Now if only we could get it in North America before next February. I guess importing is always an option.

If they totally, and I mean totally, fix their online issues they may be able to bridge the gap that FIFA has opened up on them. As long as FIFA has OTP implemented as well as it does, it probably won't matter, but it would help.

There is no single player or 1v1 soccer game that is 10% as fun as OTP with 3 or more buddies though, but that's just me.

Again, I don't expect to see Konami implement this, but I think a smooth 1v1 game in the context of a online league with stat tracking and standings provides a deeper experience than ad hoc team games against randoms.

Most likely, I'll be seeing you guys online in FIFA 09.

They may have their hands full just implementing smooth 1 v 1 online period, let alone league play or and OTP type system. There was obviously something badly broken in the engine of PES 2008 that they were never able ( or never bothered) to get right.

But if they fixed on-line, the broken bits in the AI defense, and completely revamped the league system (more flexibility to compensate for lack of licenses) they'd definitely have something worth picking up. Gone are the days when they could mail in an effort and still be miles ahead of Fifa

PES/ WE has been broken online since the first time they tried it. Remember, it's a Japanese game. Online isn't a priority.

There's no way they will do five on five or anything close. Personally, I am loving the ML just as I always have, even more maybe this time around. I have played a few games of this year's version head to head offline, and frankly there is still nothing that can touch it as a head to head game. I can only imagine how freaking awesome two on two with players who knew what they were doing would be. The control and openness of the gameplay plus the degree to which the character of the individual viedogame soccer players can come through is just unparalleled.

That said, I agree with Rob. It would be fun to do a league in PES like in the old days, but for my money, jumping into one-off games with at least one teammate trumps all the depth you can get with stat tracking or anything in a head to head league. Five on five online, no matter how frustratingly bad the specifics of gameplay in FIFA happen to be, is just the most fun I can imagine. It's just not quite broken enough to ruin that true multiplayer experience, and these days that's by far the most fun I have in gaming.

So yeah, once again it will be a two-purchase footy season for me. One for actual multiplayer, one for the good ol' ML experience. Stupid Konami could do themselves a lot of good if they'd just give us the Euro release in the fall, but I guess they think they are making serious bank with their localized add boards and out of date rosters. Not to mention online multiplayer. If only. . . . if only.

These are a must for me in 09:

1. Sort out the online mess.

2. Get the framerate sorted out, especially during cut scenes and replays.

3. Get the EDIT mode back.

To be clear, I agree with you, Naples. I don't expect Konami to implement anything like OTP and would be very happy to see them just do online 1v1 correctly. But I'm not even optimistic about that happening.

Or maybe EA will wise up and do stat tracking for OTP games, at least user stats.

No reason they can't do OTP leagues either. You'd have to make sure all participants show up all the time to play the OTP games.

Probably will depend on how OTP was received whether EA tries to expand OTP features.

Looks like my man Lionel Messi will be in the cover, wished the game could be released at about the same time as Fifa 09.

You lot seen the gameplay trailer?

http://kotaku.com/5032256/first-pro-evo ... ay-footage

While it looks a lot better (graphically), I'm a heck of a lot more pumped about the new J-League WE game coming out this month on the PS2 - at least I know Konami won't f*** around with the gameplay in that series.

Some rumors from the Winning Eleven blog a while back. NOTE: These are rumors. All the big announcements will probably be made at the Leipzig Games convention in mid-late August

http://www.winningelevenblog.com/news/h ... s-the-net/
You mentioned “become a legend” mode. Can you explain this in more detail? & how it relates to the “new exciting online mode”

You create a player and start off at a team - A made up side (Think it’s a youth side). You control just yourself (With the Be a Pro mode camera from FIFA). As you play your player improves in stats and sides become interested and make offers for your services, I had Hull & Everton after me.

When you save your player stats, you can then take him online to team up with other “legends”. This adds a whole new side to the game as you can actually play in a side day in day out and have leagues set up etc. I haven’t really got far into it but it is a great addition in my opinion.

does this imply that u can play online with other ppl playing in the same team as u???

yeah. I am not sure how many you can have but I have heard its 7 vs 7, don’t quote me though as this is 2nd hand info (tough I’m quoting you anyway!)

Any word on online lag yet?

I don’t work on the online section of the game but I am assured that the lag is 100% a thing of the past and this years will be the smoothest yet.
Looks like Fantasia mode for PES 2009. As for online, anything close to 7 v 7 online would be amazing.

That would be unbelievable...literally. Those guys can't even get 1 vs 1 right.

I remember playing the PS2 WE's 2 on 2 and sometimes 3 on 2 via multitap - was an absolute riot.

For years Seabass has been talking about a long-term goal of 10 v 10 online. I'm totally skeptical, since they (for some reason) can't figure out how to do basic online mode. But I'm still hopeful; I'd take online PES over FIFA in a second.

Yeah. If it works.

FIFA OTP is special, but this year's Pro Evo in head to head offline is still the best head to head sports game, bar none. I haven't had the chance to play two on two offline, but I'm sure that would be pure nirvana for me.

If they can get their version of OTP right, it's a no-brainer. If it really does feature something like what NHL09 is looking to do with teams of created players online, then the only advantage FIFA will have in North America is that little, meager . . . FIVE MONTH (!) lead in release date. Which is a massive advantage, of course.

No matter what, Konami is still as stupid as they come in so many areas.

It may be more of a Japanese developer thing than Konami specifically.

Are there any good online games from any Japanese developer?

I heard Soul Calibur is laggy.

I tend to agree. I think it's a cultural thing.

it would be great to play a OTP with PES09 and FIFA09, because its nice to have the real team names and kits and it would be cool if PES09 can be out same time as FIFA in NA but I might have to get PES09 on PS3 because its not region locked and have FIFA09 for xbox and PES09 for ps3.

Zep,

Looks like Pro Evo is a fall release in North America - according to the news release linked to at Operation Sports!

That's probably because they watched several hundred thousand free downloads via torrents. ;)

Nice to see it's still availabe on the PC. I'll probably grab the 360 version for on-line gaming witht the DSP crew and the PC for the fantastic mods that are created for the PC version. That's assuming the on-line actually works this time. However, if the editing functionality is improved sufficiently in the game I may just get the Console version.

And with the simultaneous release of PES in North America, it looks like either the llama or one of the monkeys was fired from the Nokami marketing department. Now if only Seabass can lay off the weed and concentrate on the game - we could have two excellent footie games this fall!

Best wishes,

What about the Wii? It was the best version of the game last year. I'd love to be playing an updated version of that sooner rather than later.

I wonder if the PC version will be exactly the same as the Euro version. It would nice not to have to import it.
