rFactor Poker Night (Wednesday, Nov. 14)
Fellas:
It's Wednesday, time for another rFactor Poker Night! But let's change up a bit from the steady recent diet of GP 79 and Porsche Supercup.
Tonight's lineup:
ETCC 1.2 at Essington Grand Prix
Mod: http://www.rfactorcentral.com/detail.cfm?ID=ETCC
Track: Stock
Formula BMW 2.0 at Lime Rock Park 1.1 (no chicane)
Mod: http://www.rfactorcentral.com/detail.cf ... mula%20BMW
Track: http://www.rfactorcentral.com/detail.cf ... ock%20Park
Now, before you groan about two low-powered classes, hear me out. I've had a really good time with the high-powered cars. But I haven't had much time lately to turn many laps, and I'm sure I'm not alone there.
So the goal tonight is to have two racey, easy-to-drive classes on known circuits so we can concentrate more on good wheel-to-wheel racing than simply keeping the car on the circuit. No worries -- we will return to high-powered cars soon, probably next week.
Don, can you create servers for these classes?
Who's in? Looking forward to seeing you tonight!
Take care,
PK

Last night was a classic example of the brilliance of rFactor and how it can take lemons and make sweet lemonade.
DChaps and I were the only guys to show up last night. Disappointing, to say the least, although Don always is super company. We decided to continue as scheduled.
First we raced the ETCC cars with AI, and it was fun. The AI smoked our collective ass, but Don and I still had some decent scraps. The ETCC cars are very driveable and very fun to race.
Then we moved to the FBMW cars. We ran a couple of races with the AI in which the AI was a bit too maniacal and punted us off track. So Don and I decided to race head to head without AI since our skill levels seemed pretty even.
Magic ensued. I enjoyed two or three of the closest races I've ever had in rFactor with Don and the magnificent Formula BMW cars. We swapped the lead multiple times per race, with the trailing car constantly probing for openings on the tight Lime Rock track.
Two of our three five-lap races were decided by less than half a second. One was absolutely EPIC, with Don and I side-by-side down the final straight. Don edged me by hundredths of a second after a classic wheel-banging battle on that straight.
Such fun. So memorable.
The FBMW cars are a revelation. Perhaps the most racey cars in rFactor, as they have almost a perfect balance of power and weight. And not too much of either, so you can really focus on racing.
Don, that was great fun. Let's do it again soon, and the rest of you rFactor cats need to rejoin the gang to savor these two classes. They provide SUPERB racing.
Take care,
PK

Ill, medicated, asleep come race time. I did think I'd make it when I posted, but I didn't.
PK, given your...ah, chequered race history, would you prefer me to call let he who is without sin, people in glass houses or the kettle calling the pot?
Being serious, I will endeavour to only sign up for these nights when I'm absolutely certain I'll be around. Anyone game for a race before next Wednesday?

Not sure what you mean by my checkered race history, Adam. I have shown up almost every time a race has been called, and I'm the one who organizes the whole thing every week.
Now as for sobriety when racing, guilty as charged.
I'm always up for racing if the not-so-active social schedule allows. Just let me know when you want to run!
Take care,
PK

PK - yup, the sobriety. I used to tear my hair out on NR2003 nights when you wrecked early on, left in a cloud of drunken frustration and then reappeared 10 minutes later. This, of course, is a result of my being an irritable, cranky little bugger at 4 in the morning, and the right to unwind with a few jars and a couple of hours of sustained attack on the scenery is one I should take advantage of more often myself.
I remember you feeling a need to call a Redemption Night after one particularly altered evening's racing, and it's given me an idea. Time for Simpson's rFactor Redemption Plan...does anyone have the time and the will necessary to run on Friday or Saturday?
