Thanks Don, I bought it sight unseen during the early access stage just like I did with their first game. I'm glad I did, the driving is even better than their first game.

I quite enjoyed the first GRID, which this seems to resemble based on what I've seen so far, so am not entirely disinterested. I also very much enjoyed GRID Autosport, as I think a number of us did. The one in the middle was bloody awful...

What we really want, of course, is ToCA Race Driver 4. A man can dream.

Adam, this is what I would love to see them do: "TOCA Touring Car Championship" and Touring Car Challenge - Toca 2. It was released on the original Playstation here in the States. The other one Codemaster's did which was excellent was "Jarrett and Labonte Stock Car Racing". Both games were awesome.

Then Codie's during the PS2/XBOX era turned it into a story driven series.

Isle of Man TT: Ride on the Edge sequel coming in 2020:

https://www.teamvvv.com/news/tt-isle-of ... c-in-2020/

GREAT news. I love the first game and still play it regularly, especially around this time of the year, coinciding with real TT! Kylotonn just needs to make the bike handling model a bit more predictable, add a few more real road tracks (Macau, North West 200, please!) and flesh out the Career mode a bit more, and this game will be brilliant.

Sweet, Man TT is still my go to bike game from the cockpit view for a pure adrenaline rush.

Absolutely, Rod. The only view in which to play this game. The sense of speed is mind-melting. :)

The 1st and 2nd Toca's on the original Playstation were brilliant. Hell you might as well add Lebonte vs Jarrett which was unofficially Toca 3 also for the Playstation which was really good.

True. But TOCA 3 on the original Xbox, PS2 and Windows was one of the best racing games made for any digital platform. Beyond brilliant.

Amen to that Paul. I remember how brilliantly they implemented their 'Pro-Simulation' physics handling in that game. You could feel the forces at work on the chassis, even with a thumbstick! I fell in love with the 67 Lotus 49 Cosworth, and the edge of the seat handling experience that gave me... it felt so alive.

I remember also that it also increased the number of drivers from 8, as we had in TOCA 2, to 12 in TOCA 3. I recall racing with a full house of DSP'ers after this game came out and it was some of the most memorable online racing of my gaming life! I also recall how much my kids enjoyed the riding mower racing this game had as an option... TOCA 3 covered the gamut from a satisfying simulation experience using vintage cars, to full assists handling of riding mowers! Oh how I'd love to see what this generation of TOCA would look and feel like, especially now that I have a force feedback steering wheel!

WRC 8 released in Europe yesterday and so far all the initial impressions are that this game is quite amazing! WRC 7 was great and it looks like Kylotonn has improved on every aspect of that game in the latest release!

I've been foaming at the mouth for this game to release. I don't know why, but I just couldn't get into Dirt Rally 2.0 and I know it's good, but it just couldn't hold my attention for some reason. WRC 7 was a lot of fun and I've played it a s***-ton. WRC 8 is my most highly anticipated title of the year and there's not a close 2nd.

Dirt Rally 2.0 is definitely a good game, but it doesn't have the "fun factor" that WRC 7 offered. And you are completely correct, WRC 8 looks to improve on every aspect of WRC 7.

Borderlands 3 is my most anticipated title of the year, but WRC 8 is definitely in the Top 5. Looking forward to it next week!

I too have been excited about WRC 8, although Dirt 2.0 with all the recent patches and DLC updates is slowly becoming my favorite rally sim of all time. I went looking for WRC 8 on Steam and saw that it was showing a scheduled release date of Sep 2020 and just figured they had the date wrong, but with a little more research discovered that it will not be coming to Steam until then as it is under exclusive release now on the Epic Games store, one of the newer digital distribution stores competing with Steam by offering a far reduced revenue split rate to the Developers (Epic is 12%, Steam has a tier system which can go from 20% to 30%). Due to that, I will probably go for the $49.99 Xbox release which will be available on Sep 10th. So anyway, if you are looking for the PC version, go to the first link below.

I'm with Don about DIRT Rally 2.0. It may be surpassing Richard Burns Rally as the best rally sim ever.

As for comparing WRC 8 to DIRT Rally 2.0, I'll rely on the classic phrase from Omar on "The Wire," "You come at the king, you best not miss."

Don thanks for all the information on WRC 8. I really enjoyed WRC 7 so I’m hoping 8 will be good.
Honestly I’m still playing and enjoying WRC 7, it’s not the prettiest girl in the room, but it’s got a great personality.

I didn't realize there was a Project Cars 3 in the works. Ian Bell, PK's favorite whipping boy says PC3 will revolutionize and be a game changer. Incoming PK rebuttal in ...3..2..1 :)

I've put about 4 hours into WRC 8 the past couple days and here are my impressions thus far.

WRC 5 wasn't a bad game, WRC 6 was definitely a step back, WRC 7 was a very impressive game, improving on everything that WRC 5 did right. WRC 8 is definitely as big of a jump in quality as 7 was in 5.

We'll start with how the game looks. Immediately you'll notice that WRC 8 looks much better than its predecessor. The cars are very sharp and the stage environments are crisper and more vibrant, the lighting is so much improved and the weather effects are much noticeably enhanced! Because this game will undoubtedly be compared to Dirt Rally 2.0, I'll use it for comparison. Dirt Rally 2.0 still looks better overall, but the WRC 8 stages feel more vibrant and alive. Also, the dynamic weather in this game is very cool! The last stage I raced started off pretty sunny but by the end, it was completely overcast and the lighting overall was completely different.

As far as the sounds, Dirt Rally 2.0 still has this department won, but WRC 8 closed the gap immensely. The engines of the vehicles aren't quite as robust in WRC 8, but they do sound good. The environmental effects (gravel hitting the car as an example) definitely have improved as have the weather effects, but they still fall a little short from Dirt Rally 2.0.

Handling, this is where things are a bit different and I think this will come down to personal preference, but right now, I think WRC 8 feels better overall. The weightiness of the cars just feel spot on to me. Dirt Rally 2.0 still felt a little floaty and I never felt like I was in control of the car at all times. In WRC 8, it feels more realistic to me. It might have a slightly arcade feel to it however it primarily feels like a rally simulation. I also don't have all the settings at the Realistic setting either, so that could dramatically change the handling some, but I really like how the cars control with my current settings.

As far as the Career mode, WRC 8 wins this hands down. Dare I say that it could be too in-depth. But so far, I am really liking how its done and all the different options you can take on your "off-days" to enhance your career and crew members. Initially, I think it could be a little too punishing, but we shall see how things play out in the end.

There are 14 different rally locations with over 100 stages. You definitely have to make sure you apply the correct tires on the car or else you are going to struggle! There are also some Extreme Events you have to drive your car a certain distance in an allotted amount of time in harsh weather conditions and a battered vehicle. If you are successful, you are rewarded quite well.

Overall, WRC 8 is a definitely polished game and by far the best in the series. Even if you enjoy Dirt Rally 2.0 and want a different change of pace game, WRC 8 is just fun to play.

Just waiting for my WRC 8 pre-order to unlock tonight. Can't wait, as I thought WRC 7 was better than both versions of Dirt Rally from a fun factor standpoint. Should have gotten to the Ultimate Edition or whatever it was so I could play a few days ago. Oh well, almost time.
