OT - your favorite albums of all time?
Saw how REM sang "Begin the Begin" at their HOF induction which had me take another listen to Life's Rich Pageant. I bought this album in my early high school years and still have my original vinyl. This album has a special place in my heart as it was my first REM album and songs like "Begin the Begin", "Superman", "Cuyahoga", "Fall on Me", and "Swan Swan Hummingbird" are prototyipcal REM with some of those songs serving as a bridge from the early REM style to their later albums.
Another "bridge" album in my library (still have the vinyl for this one too) that ranks way up there is U2's "Unforgettable Fire." I was a fan of U2 well before the release of this one, but it reflects the style of early U2 work and their next album "The Joshua Tree."
A few others of note
Loretta Lynn "Van Lear Rose" with Jack Black; incredible vocals by Loretta and equally great guitar work from Jack
Galaxie 500 - any of them
Elvis Costello "King of America"
Abba "Abba Gold" - hey, what can I say, my mom listened to Abba in the 70s and their tunes really are catchy. A great collection.
Bow Wow Wow "I Want Candy" great beats

Christ, I would need a day locked into a closet to really mine all of the albums that I love. But right off the top of my head, 30-second version:
The Beatles -- "Abbey Road"
Steely Dan -- "Aja"
Sex Pistols -- "Never Mind the Bollocks, Here's the Sex Pistols"
The Clash -- "London Calling"
Paw -- "Dragline"
Wilco -- "Yankee Hotel Foxtrot"
Son Volt -- "Trace"
U2 -- "Achtung Baby"
Robert Cray -- "Strong Persuader"
Miles Davis -- "Kind of Blue"
Oasis -- "Definitely Maybe"
The Pretenders -- "The Pretenders"
Crystal Method -- "Vegas"
Sugar -- "File Under: Easy Listening"
Ryan Adams -- "Cold Roses"
Ulrich Schnauss -- "Far Away Trains Passing By"
The Doors -- "L.A. Woman"
Prince -- "Purple Rain"
Drive-By Truckers -- "Southern Rock Opera"
Sigur Ros -- "()"
Guns 'N Roses -- "Use Your Illusion II"
Frank Sinatra -- "Songs for Swingin' Lovers"
If I had to pick one from that list, it would be easy: Miles' "Kind of Blue." The greatest album ever made.
Take care,
PK

I'd also sneak out The Jam's box set and a burned CD of my favorite Replacements tunes!
