Anyone getting GTA for the Xbox?

Post by matthewk »

I have TW wrapped and ready to go back to TRU in exchange for the GTA double-pack. I never even played Vice City, so in a way it´ll be like getting an entirely new game for me.

Looking forward to ripping a bunch of my 80s discs for the customer soundtrack

Anyone know if the graphics will be improved? I remember GTA3 having a slight framerate problem, enough so that I began to get that seasick feeling I normally onlky get from first-person games.

Matt:

Yes! Tonight!

I´m in the same ship as you. Never finished GTA III before I sold my PS2 even though I LOVED it. GTA III and World of Outlaws Sprint Car Racing are the only games I miss from my PS2 days.

I never played Vice City, so I´m stoked to get both games for $50.

I´ve read where the graphics for both games have been cleaned up considerably. Improved graphics and the ability to rip your own soundtracks are the only differences between the PS2 and Xbox versions of these games. But you know what? That´s good enough for me.

Enjoy, man.

Take care,

Good enough for me too. And thanks to the TRU deal, this double-pack will only cost me $35 instead of $50
Hope you pull it off. The TRUs out here will force you to return all 3 games which must be unopened. Then you have to buy at new prices.

Their receipts say no returns without receipts. Well your receipts will reflect the 3 for 2 deal and what the two stores I checked around here will tell you is that one of your games was "free" so they´re not going to exchange it for full value.

I just ended up returning all 3 (unopened) and getting SOCOM II. I will probably pay full price for Risk and possibly FIFA.

Yeah, i´m with you guys...I never quite completed III and never tried Vice City so you´re right...a brand new game for me as well.

I´ll be picking it up along with Fifa (don´t laugh, I actually enjoy the game) tonight.

I´m very tempted in picking up this game after reading IGN´s review. Sure sounds as though there are some significant improvements in terms of graphics, loading times, etc. etc. etc.

WCO - I know it will work. I already exchanged one game this way with no hassles. In fact, when I bought my 6 (for the price of 4), two different employees confirmed that i could do this. I told them I wanted to get GTA next week, and they both said it was fine to do so. Thye said a ot of people were doing this since the policy to exchange any unopened game within 45 days of purchase.

DB, don´t be ashamed, I got NHL 2004 as part of one of my 3-for-2s.

DB - FIFA !?!?!?

MatthewK - NHL !?!?!?

Are you guys for real ??? Any REAL self respecting gamer would NEVER touch either of those titles !!!!! You both have gone down a notch in my eyes. Very dissapointing.

Pleeeeaaaase... I am kidding of course. It is sad that we feel that we have to excuse ourselves for liking a game (I know the feeling too). Remember, this isn´t SR where you have a bunch of non-regular idiots jump down your throat. I think that ALL posters here have more respect than that. Don´t be ashamed !

MattK:
Don´t apologize for NHL 2004. It´s the most well-rounded, enjoyable hockey game among the three titles I´ve played so far this year -- NHL 2004, ESPN NHL Hockey and NHL Hitz Pro.

EA did an excellent job of rescuing the NHL 2004 series. It does a lot of things right and only a few things wrong. I´m playing the hell out of it now for an upcoming review.

Oops, my bad. I meant to type NHL 2003. NOW we´ll see how much respect you have left for me

It was part of the 3-for-2, and it was $20, so each one averages out to about $14. I´m not a Hockey nut, so I´m just looking for something fun.

NHL 2003? Oh, s***, now that was a drink coaster disguised as a video game if there ever was one!

Good luck, and at least your wood-topped tables won´t get water stains from wet drink glasses.
You do know there is a hole in the middle of the CD right? It´s not a very good coaster either.

Well, DB, you can use FIFA 2004 as a spacer for some ill-balancing stereo equipment or a VCR ...

BTW, I just traded in TW for GTA at TRU. Damn, I feel like I´m speaking in code (TW, GTA, TRU). No problems returning just one of the three games that were part of my prior 3-4-2 deal.

GTA feel slike such a steal. $35 for what is really 2 full games.

Guys, I hope you enjoy these games. When I played GTA III I just couldn´t fully get into the random violence thing. For some reason, with VC, once I decided to just go for it, I loosened up and had a lot more fun. That said, I loved them both. I wonder, however, how GTA III holds up after VC; VC is just a much, much more polished version of the same game.

Surely the graphical upgrades will be very nice indeed as well. Both these games, especially VC, really showed how poor a machine the PS2 really is.

However, do NOT ruin the Vice City experience by using your own soundtracks for that game. They pulled off a major coup (surely not a cheap one) by buying all the songs they did for that game. Having real songs that you really remember is simply unbeatable in terms of creating the atmosphere of the game. The GTA III music was a sort of cute homage to the type of music they actually bought for VC, and the difference made by having the real deal cannot be overestimated. I mean, their TV commercials are simply brilliant, though exceedingly simple. They´re still the same commercials from the PS2 release, but they still work! It´s all in the music!
