DSP WE League: Official Thread

DSP WE League Season Nine Complete, Preparations Underway For Season Ten

DSP WE League Season Nine has been completed, and we are close to the beginning of Season Ten.

Make sure to use the appropriate game settings for season games. The game settings are listed below the roster of participants. The 'season' setting for the Tenth Season will be SUMMER. Weather, as always, will be random.

This season, the ball we use for league games will be the Classic (12/16). Going old school for this one.

Make sure that pause time, labeled 'time limit,' must be long, and number of pauses must be the maximum (9). Games should be played at the appropriate stadium.

Here is the roster of participants for Season Ten:
  • DSPremiership

RobVarak = Aston Villa FC (West Midlands Village) - Estadio Monumental Antonio V. Liberti (Antlion Colosseum)

CP Zeppo = UC Sampdoria -

St Cloud = Tottenham Hotspur FC (North East London) - Amsterdam ArenA (Orange Arena)

Naples39 = Bolton Wanderers FC (Middlebrook) - Pick Em

Sully OS = Blackburn Rovers FC (Lancashire) - Pick Em

bubbaball (bphilipb) = FC Bayern München - Amsterdam ArenA (Orange Arena)

Met34 = FC Girondins de Bordeaux - Pick 'Em
Please note the game settings below and make sure to set up games properly for the league. Make sure that pause time, labeled 'time limit,' must be long, and number of pauses must be the maximum (9). Season will be Summer for Season Nine, and games should be played at the appropriate stadium.

Game Settings

Games are to be played at these settings:

Match Time: 15

Stadium: Home Team's Stadium
Time: (home team choice)
Season: Summer (will rotate in future seasons)
Weather: Random

Injuries: Yes
Condition: Random
Ball Type: Classic (12/16) (will rotate in future seasons)
Match Type EX: No
PK: No
Max. Number of Subs: 3
Time Limit: Long
Number of Pauses: 9

Basic League Rules

Each team plays the teams in its division twice a season, once home once away. The seasons are divided into halves, so that each team plays the other teams in its division once per half-season, and plays the return match in the following half-season. At the end of the season, the team atop the Division One table will be declared Season Champion; the top team in the Division Two table will be promoted to Division One for the following season, and the bottom team in the Division One table will be dropped to Division Two for the ensuing season, and so on for any lower divisions.

Games can be played in any order, but we want to do each season by half, so at first only the first-half games are available to be reported into the league module until the first-half deadline has been reached.

Every half-season will be given a deadline two weeks from the time it starts. Extensions will be granted liberally, but you must request one in the league thread. We will record forfeits at the end of the deadline according to who gave a serious effort to get the specific games in. It is likely that I will post a 'heads up' post when we are close to the deadline. Respond in this thread if you are having trouble getting in contact with or meeting online with an opponent.

At least one player needs to make a game report here at DSP in this thread after the match, including goal scorers and bookings (yellow and red cards) and injuries (yellow and red crosses). It can be very basic, but please try to post something after each game. Many also like to include the team stats as they appear after the game.

Also, one of the players, typically the winner but you can decide when you guys play, needs to input the game into the league module over at SGN, which will keep the table for us automatically. Goal scorers and players booked should be inputted here as well; injuries must be reported in this thread.

We will be keeping track of bookings, and obviously if someone gets a red card, they miss the next match for that team. Accumulating two yellows will also result in that player being suspended for that team's next league game. Make sure to not bookings as they occure in game, since the post-game stats are extremely limited.

Injuries should also be noted in this thread. A yellow cross will result in the player missing zero or one game (by roll of a regular six-sided die: 1-3 is no games, 4-6 is one game). A red cross will result in a player missing one, two, or three games (same die: 1-2 is one game, 3-4 is two, 5-6 is three games). Please make sure to note the severity of the inury when it occurs, since, again, the post-game stats are extremely limited.

The Table

A win is worth 3 points in the standings, a draw worth 1, a loss gets you none. A forfeited game will be recorded as a 3-0 win for the guy who showed real effort to get the game in. Forfeits will be entered into the table as of the half-season deadline, or shortly thereafter. Extensions will be liberally given, but try to use the threads to keep in touch so I can tell who is trying to get games in and who is AWOL. If both teams are AWOL, the game will be recorded as a 0-0 draw (what else can be done for a double-forfeit?)

At the end of the season, the team in each Division with the most standings points is the Champion of that Division. The Championship of the DSPremiereship brings with it much glee and rejoicing, dancing in the streets and laughter and good times. The Champion of Division Two, the DSPenultimate, will be promoted into the DSPremiereship for the following season, and the last team in the DSPremiereship table will be relegated into Division 2, and so on for any lower divisions.

In the case of a standings points tie, the first tie-break will be Goal Difference. The second tie-break will be total Goals For. After that, head to head record would be next, then head to head GD, then head to head GF (after that . . . ?).

League Module at SportsGamingNation

The league module is up and once we complete sign up and team selection, it will be ready for nosing around in. Head on over to Jason's SGN League site:

http://www.sportsgamingnation.com/sgnleagues/index.php

If you don't have an account there, create one and log in. If you do, log in. Click on the WE League Standings link, and there will be the tables of teams. Click on your team's link, and you will be taken to that team's info page. If you are that team's owner, click on the 'manage team' link, and the module will link your log in ID and that team, so you can from then on make changes and report games.

Reporting games is very easy; from the league's Schedule page, where you will see a list of games, or your team's Schedule page, you will note there are three small icons next to each game. Clicking on the arrow icon will allow you to 'update' the game, that is, input the score, etc.

It's pretty straightforward, and any screwups can be fixed by myself or Jason over at SGN.

Winners should be the ones to report the games, but it really doesn't matter; obviously only one guy should 'update' each game.

When you enter the data for the game, make sure you also enter the goal scorers, any one who received any yellow or red cards. If a plyaer's name is not in the pull-down menu, you will have to go to the team page for that team and 'add player.' You will only have access to 'add player' for your own team, so either your opponent or myself will have to add players to the other team if necessary. Make sure to note a missing player that need to be added in the game result post you make in this thread.

Note as well that at first, the schedule posted is only for the first half-season. Home and Away is very important (home team is listed FIRST), since in the second half-season you will play the opposite games. So, we each play everyone in the Division once, hit the deadline (and deal with any forfeits), and then the second half schedule will be up. The 'date' next to each game is not so much a date as a cataloging system, and a way to keep the divisions separate on the schedule page; 5001 is the season number, number 1, the 'month' is actually the Division, and the 'day' is the half of that season (01 for now, next half season is 02). You don't have to worry about all that, it just turned out to be an easy way to separate the two divisions on the big schedule page.

If you have any questions about anything, feel free to post here or PM me. I will make the decisions as to forfeits. I will be fair, and provide extensions liberally when requested. Remember, very half season has a deadline at the end of two weeks.

Good luck, and play fair!!

So, season One is ready to go. Remember, season is Winter for this season, weather is Random (as always).

The first half schedule is up at the SGN League site.

The DEADLINE for the first half is two week from Sunday, 4/9.

If you are having trouble getting your games in, be sure to post here. Extensions will be liberally granted, but only if requested.

Please make sure to note which team is home, which away, before you play. Home teams are liste FIRST in the schedule.

Mo, have you decided on a home stadium, or are you going to 'random' it or wander? I think wandering is fine, for us two whose teams' stadiums are not in the game, but I have chosen to play in Stade Velodrome with Fenerbache for this season. If you decide on a permanent home (for this season, anyway) let me know and I will edit the top post.

Good luck!

woo-hoo....the filter is down at my work, so I can actually post in 'forums' which is a blocked category. so is 'video games.'
Anyway, if anybody uses AOL IM, my nickname on there is lucisan.
Should make contacting and scheduling games a bit easier.

Anybody else use IM?

Mo, don't use the [IMG] tags. I removed them for your team and the image showed up. Just enter the link to the image file.

Where is the option to upload images? I try Modify Team, but it says that I don't have permission?

So is it safe to say that if we normally use the WE9 option file to get all of the teams and graphics, that it doesn't work online? I just got the Xbox so I'm off to go pick up the game right now along with an Action Replay.

Yes. Unfortunately, not even the name changes make it to the online portion of the game. Hence all these names in parenthases.

Inaugural Match Ends in Draw
Galatasaray steals late equalizer.

La Bonbanera (Estadio Gran Chaco) - 3/27

Galatasary and Fenerbahçe kicked off the inaugural DSP WE League Season with the first of one hopes many Turkish derbies at La Bonbanera. The first half was uneventful, hardly worth remembering, but the action came alive in the second half.

Hakan Sukur opened the scoring for Galatasaray, sending the home fans into a tizzy with a strike in the 53' that beat Rustu (Risko), who made several strong saves throughout the game. In the 74' Alex (Anekks) equalized off of a free kick from 24M, a beautiful curling strike that bounced off the bottom of the crossbar and into the net, and the game was on.

Both teams sought the winner agressively for the remainder of the match, but neither could break through. Finally in the 89', after a long posession by Fenerbahçe, Alex created a bit of space at the top of the box and snuck a low shot past the keeper to take the leaad and stun the home fans. But Fenerbahçe relaxed too quickly, and the cagey veteran Hakan Sukur continued to hammer away towards goal. Pressuring a central defender, he forced a bad touch and a very bad turnover, and demonstrated his considerable ability with a classy finish to steal back a point late in stoppage time.

Breathing a sigh of relief, the home fans walked away looking forward to the return match at Stade Velodrome, and many successful DSP WE League seasons to come.

Galatasaray 2 : 2 Fenerbahçe (Constanti)

GAL: Hakan Sukur 53', 90'+
FEN: Alex (Anekks) 74', 89'

Great game, Mo. It really opened up in the second half. What is it they say, every game needs a goal, well that goal really got us going. I can't wait for the return match. Good luck the rest of the way!

Anyone care to explain why I can't load a damn option file? I downloaded the newest one over at OS...but when I try to copy it to the hard drive, it won't let me. I can't load it directly from inside of WE9 either. WTF? This is the first game I haven't been able to use Action Replay for. It just won't allow me to copy the file from the memory card to the hard drive. Any tricks particular to this game? Thanks.

With WE, you can't copy the file from the dashboard. The only way is to load it, copy it, etc. in game. Don't know why you wouldn't be able to load it in game.

I figured it out...nevermind.

I was trying to copy it to the hard drive in the Xbox menu, not the WE9 menu. I figured it out though. Thanks.

OK Maybe the message is not getting through, since several seem to be under the same misconception:

Games can be played in any order, and as we are only doing one half-season at a time, we will still be doing some kind of synchronization.

Any game that is on the schedule at the SGN League site is eligible to be played, the order they appear at the SGN League site is random.

Jared, Sully, robvarak, naples...if any of you all want to play me tomorrow, (Tuesday) it's a good day for me to do so.

I'm able to start at 5pm EST and start games through 11pmEST. My preference would be to block a couple of games back to back, the earlier the better, but one early and one late might work out, too.

Let me know what you guys can do.
