I've got a strong feeling we won't be seeing the PS4 until December.
I find your bitterness extremely amusing. Sony announced the PS4 would come with a headset months ago, and Microsoft just now got around to copying them.

There is no evidence whatsoever that Sony had any plans for an always-on requirement, or restrictions on the sales of used games. None.

I'm glad I amuse you as your track record on Sony victory is equally amusing to me. I seem to recall you boasting how great the following would be; Home, Move, Vita. :D

As I said, I just want more information about the PS4. When they come out after the XB1 unboxing video and say this about a PS4 unboxing “people will want to experience themselves.” I'm not so inclined to drink the kool aid, so if wanting more information bothers you there is not much I can do about that.

I didn't know Microsoft originally planned to pay their suppliers in US Dollars instead of Yen and Sony copied this strategy. This article has nothing to do with what you are inferring and everything to do about the strength of the dollar vs. yen.

Which is my whole point. I'm not sure why one or two individuals think I am pro-MS. The Last 3 console games I bought were for the PS3 (Dragon's Crown is awesome btw) I just want to get by all this BS and start learning about what I am paying for. This one upmanship by Sony and MS is just old.

Maybe we should start talking about something less heated, like politics :D

I am in the same boat as Rod about PC vs. Console. I find myself wanting to get more excited about these launches, but I also have a desktop that's going to be five years old around Christmas -- the perfect time for me to make the "well, I really should upgrade" argument. I also find myself playing sports games far less than I used to, which was a big reason I chose consoles over a gaming PC this past generation. If I go PC, that probably means no console until the tail end of 2014 at the earliest. However, given the nature of console launches, and price drops, that may be a better strategy for value and game quality, too.

MS has done a very good job of saving face and adapting to gamer's requests regarding the impending release of the Xbox 1. I'd like to hear more information about the PS4, and anticipate we will very soon within a few weeks.

I'm still leaning towards the PS4, simply because of the games. I've always preferred their exclusives by a wide margin, and with no baseball on the horizon on Xbox 1, I feel more comfortable with my decision. My only reservation is that of Mine Craft. My son enjoys that game immensely, but I'm going to keep the 360 around for that, and I'm wagering that he'll move on to other games eventually.

I imagine that online will be greatly improved on the PS4, although I'm sure it'll still fall short of the experience on Xbox 1. At the ripe old age of 40 years old, playing online has pretty much passed me by. Those of you who I've played with (racing and shooting games), you are far more skilled than I. Still, it'll be there to experience on the PS4 with improved functionality. I far more enjoy the single game experience or playing along side my 11 year old son, so online will be something toyed with now and then. I'd have a harder time deciding which console to choose if online was an important factor.

I think both systems will sell very well in the states, with MS probably taking the market share. But, when parents go holiday shopping this year, and see a $100 price difference, I would imagine them having to think twice about spending an extra $100 on a system with similar games and graphics.

It's safe to say that each system will have it's pros and cons, and hopefully things will remain civilized here at DSP, whichever console we choose to purchase. I'd hate to see DSP become either pro XBox 1 or PS4, alienating those who went with the less popular console.

Yup that's my problem with both consoles. I now have a kick ass PC rig that's dedicated to Steam games that can run every game at MAX. The other problem for me is paying $60 for a sequel or waiting for the same game to go on sale for 75-80% during their weekly or seasonal fire sales.

Down the road i'll probably bite when there are enough AAA+ titles that can be had for less than $20 and when the consoles are being discounted as well.

The real question with any console launch is what the libraries will look like a year after launch. I don't think there has been a system launch since the Dreamcast where a new console had more than 1-2 titles I was really dying to play. The 360 and the PS3 launches in particular were pretty underwhelming. The attractive thing for me about getting a new PC is that I'll not only have so many new games available but also titles that were PC only that I missed.

At the same time, I spend so much time in front of the computer that I am not really dying to do that for gaming. Getting that PC on a TV is not really an option for me, either.

That's my problem too. I want to game sitting on my couch, so I'd need another PC for the TV. I'd rather try a next gen console first. Then maybe once PC jumps way ahead again, look at a compact PC (or maybe Steam Box?) for the TV.

The Steam Box I built has built in WiFi, wireless keyboard/mouse as well as a Xbox 360 wireless controller. It's like having a hi-res console. I can upload pics if you guys want. :)

Kinect Is No Longer Mandatory For Xbox One

Another backflip? Back in May, Microsoft said that you'll need have the motion-sensing Kinect plugged in at all times in order for your Xbox One to function, but now they're reversing course once again.

We already knew that you could turn off the Kinect, but now Microsoft says it doesn't have to be plugged in at all. Speaking to IGN, Microsoft's Marc Whitten shared the news that the Xbox One will indeed work without Kinect.

"That said, like online, the console will still function if Kinect isn’t plugged in, although you won’t be able to use any feature or experience that explicitly uses the sensor," he said.

Asked just how "off" the Kinect can be, Whitten answered totally off.

"You have the ability to completely turn the sensor off in your settings. When in this mode, the sensor is not collecting any information. Any functionality that relies on voice, video, gesture or more won’t work. We still support using it for IR blasting in this mode. You can turn the sensor back on at any time through settings, and if you enter into a required Kinect experience (like Kinect Sports Rivals for instance), you’ll get a message asking if you want to turn the sensor back on in order to continue."

This is yet another entry to add to the list of stunning reversals in Xbox One policy made by Microsoft over the past few months. In June, Microsoft switched course on Xbox DRM, and they've flipped on all sorts of other policies since then.

This is good news.

I think the next thing we'll see is a XBOX ONE w/o Kinect for the same retail price as PS4.

Which will suck because I ordered the launch day 500 dollar one and I literally don't have a spot to put the kinect in my office...so it's going to be a paperweight anyway! Grrrr.

Yeah the one thing I didn't care for with XB1 is the Kinect simply because it doesn't fit my environment and I never use the one I have. Grrrr.. I'd also like to know more about the PS4 online environment.

I'm glad I have both pre-ordered but right now I'm not planning on not feeling good on pulling the final trigger on either.

You must be confusing me with someone else because I have never said a positive word about Home, and in fact I have never once accessed it on my PS3. I did buy a Move when they were 50% off at Gamestop and it worked well with Dead Space Extraction, but aside from that and House of the Dead 4 it just sits under my TV. The Vita is a great handheld games machine (as is the 3DS XL), and was great for value for me since I only paid $150 net for the AC3 Liberation bundle last November. Of course it has sold poorly all around the world and may not be around too much longer.

Some other information we've known for months is that the PS4 would not ship with the PS4 Eye included and that the console would obviously function without the camera plugged in. In contrast, Microsoft announced just today that the Xbox One would function if the Kinect isn't plugged in, even though they had been telling us the opposite since May.

Being a guy in my early 40's, I'm choosing based on 2 things: what my other 40's friends are buying (Xbox). Definitely don't want to lose the rare times we can all "act stupid online". Also I have 2 young kids that will love the kinect "sooner than later". End of story for me. To go PS to save a $100 would simply mean less gaming for me (even if it had better games). Anything else x1 does is a bonus.

Yep, when he's speaking as "boogie2988", he's very rational and well spoken. "Francis" is one of his stereotypical parody characters. I sometimes get a real hoot out "Francis", but he can easily get over-done. It helps me to stomach "Francis" to know it is a comedy bit.
