5 most potent MLB lineups?
1. Texas: 1-6 are all very good hitters with power, and they're only getting better with time. Barajas is the only guy in the lineup who's average or below with the bat.
2. Baltimore: Not a single weak spot in this lineup, but some of these guys are past their primes.
3. St. Louis: The loss of Renteria hurts, but any lineup with Walker, Rolen, Pujols, and Edmonds will score a lot of runs
4. New York: a platoon of All-Stars, but it remains to be seen if Giambi will get back to form or if Matsui can keep up last year's success.
5. LA Angels: they have a guy who hit 36 HRs last year in the 7 slot.
Others to watch: Red Sox, Mariners, Braves, Marlins, Phillies

The Braves do not have a potent lineup. They are efficient, as they have two former studs batting 7 and 8. If they come anywhere near their average year, they will be pretty good. As a team though, they aren't going to score a ton of runs, but with their starting pitching, it's not going to matter much.

Anyone that doesn't have Boston in their top 5 is just kooky.
The Yankees offense will be overrated again. They just rely way too much on the homerun. They may be patient, but they just aren't consistent enough in getting hits.

You are correct. The whole division champs thing is pretty overrated. It doesn't mean much unless you cash it in. I know all too well, being a Braves fan. Now, the Suns on the other hand might be able to do some damage.WillHunting wrote:As a big Celtics fan, I have to say this, the Atlantic Division Champs title really doesn't mean much.
**Not a complete thread jack since I worked the Braves in there.**
I don't get to watch many AL games, but here is my top 5 lineups:
1. St. Louis - I'm a homer, what can I say.. They topped the NL last year and I don't think they lost much in Renteria, Womack, and Matheny.
2. NY Mets - All I know is I hate playing them in MVP.
3. Boston - hitters all over the place in this lineup.
4. Texas - young and talented
5. Philly - just watched them in a 3 game series and I'm quite impressed so far.

I would have to vote for Boston, Texas, Phillies, Cards, and Angels... Angels make it on the list for me because they have solid offense in every spot but catcher and 2-3 more good hitters on the pine - plus they scratch the top 10 with Vlad alone, that guy is a beast. I'd shift and put Florida on there in place of someone, but I'm waiting to see if Delgado is going to return to his former self.

It's not like jumping with joy. The Atlantic division is pretty lame.
Plus, for a franchise with 16 banners, a division title is pretty underwelming.
I hope that they can do some damage in the playoffs, they have the talent to do it.
The Cleveland Indians are underrated. They were 4th or 5th in runs in the AL last year. Victor Martinez,Travis Hafner,Casey Blake all had 20HR+, Aaron Boone has avg. 20 HR a year, Ben Broussard and Coco Crisp had 17 and 15 Hr respectively. Any kind of comeback by Juan Gonzalez and this team is capable of lighting up the scoreboard. Most of these guys are entering only thier 2nd or 3rd full year in the majors. If the pen hadn't blown 20something saves last year, the Tribe may have snuck in playoffs last year
Ya think I might be a Tribe fan

1. Texas Rangers 347
2. Boston Red Sox 343
3. Baltimore Orioles 333
4. St. Louis Cardinals 324
5. Cincinnati Reds 319
6. Philadelphia Phillies 318
7. New York Yankees 316
8. Tampa Bay Devil Rays 302
9. Los Angeles Angels 301
10. Los Angeles Dodgers 299
Rangers - these guys can rake. Probably will lead the majors in runs for many years to come.
Red Sox - Even with Ramirez off his game and Bellhorn sucking as usual, the team's OBP is a godly .359 and Damon and Varitek are picking up the slack.
Baltimore - Palmeiro and Sosa are looking washed-up, but Brian Roberts is doing his best Craig Biggio impersonation, and part-timers like Gomez and Surhoff are putting up great numbers, as are the usual suspects Tejada and Mora.
St. Louis - these guys probably will drop out of the top 5 before the year is done. Grudzie and Eckstein's numbers will drop, and Walker isn't going to get any better. Rolen may or may not improve when he comes back, although he usually plays well even when hurt.
Cincinnati - Griffey Jr. isn't hurt yet. When he does go down, though, Pena and AAA Kearns will post similar numbers. Lopez and Randa won't continue to produce, though, so the Reds well probably end up around #8-#10 if the lineup stays the same.
Philadelphia - The only reason they are this low is that Thome hasn't been hitting. Once he gets going, they will easily make the top 5...unless Burrell has a relapse.
Yankees - Not bad considering that Godzilla's not hitting HRs, Giambi without steroids is like Samson without hair, Martinez isn't starting material anymore, and Tony Womack is in the lineup. They'll fill the holes before the trade deadline.
Tampa Bay - What. the. hell. They have a good batting average, but the only reason they are this high is that they've been fortunate to have good clutch hitting all year.
Angels - Finley got off to a terrible start, and no one's hitting HRs yet. Vlad was on the DL for while. They'll get better.
Dodgers - After slow starts, Kent and Drew are red-hot. Every starter is hitting .263 or better. Izturis and Milton Bradley are off to a great start. Kent and Drew will keep hitting, but the rest of the team won't be this good.
What happened to...?
Seattle (28th) - Adrian Beltre has lost his mojo, and Bret Boone may want to start a self-help group with Jason Giambi. Ichiro's numbers are down. Sexson's the real deal, but he's getting no help. Aside from him, no one's hitting with men on base.
Cleveland (29th) - No one's hitting HRs, and Boone, Blake, Cora, and Martinez have been awful. Gerut's back, but when half your starting lineup is hitting .200, you're not going to score much.
Florida (22nd) - Lowell's offense has been a black hole, routinely killing off scoring chances and offsetting great numbers from Cabrera and Delgado. Pierre's not doing a good job of setting the table, and Encarnacion is performing below expectations.
Vote for Morgan Ensberg!

Let's take the home field advantage away, because Philly is not that good. Apparently, St. Louis is not that great either.
