OT: Starcraft 2

Post by Danimal »

Might not be many PC gamers here but I am wondering if anyone picked it up?

This is going to sound weird but as a gamer, I feel almost compelled to buy this game. I honestly don't even remember playing the original that much and I am not a big RTS guy, but I feel like I need to own this. LOL

I may bite on the Kmart $20 off coupon deal that comes with the game. I loved the first Starcraft. The only thing holding me back is having to sign into Battle.net in order to play. And they log your stats in case anyone has issues regarding privacy.

I got the Collector's Edition today. Only had a chance to do all of the tutorials and part of the opening mission at lunch, though.

Ok Terry I'm getting it and I'll kick your ass in a game :)

By kick your ass I mean lose horribly because I suck at RTS games.

I barely play them, but the USB Stick was too cool--and it gave me some little Mech pet for World of Warcraft, so I figured WTH.

My computer will not run it...I was cheap and got a laptop for like 600 bucks a few years ago and didn't get a good enough video card!

That's exactly why I bought it. :)

I didn't play the original, but loved a few of the past RTS games, so I figured it would be in my wheelhouse, plus, if you're a PC Gamer at all, you pretty much have to own the game. So there's that.

And I'm pretty sure talk about gaming isn't OT. :) This place hasn't been strictly about sports gaming in a long long long time.

I still play the original. In fact, I played it over the weekend. I have always sucked at this game, but have a college buddy who has played it regularly for years and still hits me up for a co-op game or two. This game has been a really long time coming. For awhile it was in the Duke Nukem category of vaporware so it is cool that it has actually been released. I was not part of the beta, so all this will be new to me, but I still expect to suck.

I gave into the hype and picked it up today. Got my $20 off coupon from Kmart. I haven't setup the game yet, does Blizzard still require real names on Battle.net?

No. The big blow-up in the media about that was just to post on the forums--and they rescinded that after the big firestorm.

The only thing you'd use real names for is the "Real ID" friends list, which is handy for family members and real-life friends. For example, I can chat with my eldest son from Starcraft to Warcraft when he's on at his mom's house, etc.

But you don't need to use your real name for anything game-related.

I'm loving it but I'm a huge Starcraft geek. Massive step up from the original as expected. Played the MP Beta and couldn't wait to get my hands on the finished product. The single player is fantastic. 10/10;)

I'm really not a big RTS guy, but Blizzard shows why everything they do turns to gold. This game is terrific, I need to get some of you guys on my friends list. It's freaking cool I was able to search my Facebook Friends who had the game and just add them.

There's a bug that causes SC2 to overheat your video card. When you are in the game menu, there is no frame rate limit, so your video card puts all its power to render as many frames as possible, thus overheating itself.

To fix it:

Open "Documents\StarCraft II\variables.txt"
Add the following two lines at the end of that text file:
frameratecapglue=30
frameratecap=60

I just bought this last night and wow I'm loving this game!

As much as I've been playing the campaign, I'm sure to have it finished this weekend and then will move on to the new expansion. I am a HUGE C&C fan and this is even better imho.

It's the greatest game of all time IMO. The expansion has just improved upon everything considerably. As a Zerg player I was having a blast last night with the new swarm hosts. Awesome unit!
