It's Friday: Let's F1!

Post by Zeppo »

Folks:

I know PK and Adam are both up for some F1 racing tonight, and I am too. I'd like to start at 10pm EDT as usual, and I promise I'll do better and be there on time this time. No dozing off on the couch at 9:55 this time. :o

As always, we will do 30% races with the 15 minute qualifying session, "2011 performance" cars of the driver's choice, and full flags and rules. I will insist probably put our favrite German legend srivers, the elder and the younger, at Legend level and probably mix in a couple Intermediate level AI with the rest of the field filled with Pro.

Track suggestions will be duly considered, but be ready: we will have to start off with Melbourne because, well, if you don't know why, you should! Otherwise we may just have to finaly try the carnage that would be Monaco, but I can't decide how stupid that would be.

Who's in?

In, with lust in my heart. Melbourne sounds perfect, with another race afterward if dudes are willing.

In and was going to suggest Melbourne as well. But Zepp remember its my first race so no quirky zeppo twists like monsoon conditions
Ill go with the consensus of course but id like to race my first race and not skate around the infield or see my crew chief too many times.

Controller = not enough front wings in the paddock.

Do yourself a favor Jimmy and turn on full TCS, especially if there is rain. Also I believe ABS is a must. We always play with 'dynamic weather,' which I forgot to mention above, but that's a necessity in this game because of how awesome the weather system is.

Should be able to make it. This week I'll probably use the Virgin/Marussia, same as I'm using in career mode these days. FYI, I never run ABS, and usually I run with traction control on medium (even in the wet), though the last few career races I've wimped out and gone full on traction control to try to get out of the bottom third. The races I've run offline with full traction really don't show the effects of tire wear.

I should be in. My wife will be away overnight so the kids will be in bed and I should be good to go. I'll mess a bit beforehand and get some settings I'm comfortable with.

I hope to be there as well. So does everyone use some level of traction control and/or ABS? I am scared to turn any of it on and find out I am still dead last.

I know what you are saying.

I turn them both on and off and as a testament to my inabilty to get a grasp of these cars, I drive just about the same either way.

Hell, yes, I use TC and ABS. And I'm not ashamed to admit it. I have iRacing for "manly man" racing. This game is just pure fun with the buddies.

I hope to join tonight. I also use TCS and ABS and won't apologize for it. You can just race.

I don't. Not sure if Terry does.

So folks, when you come up behind my HRT tonight, do remember that a) it has no traction control, b) it has no ABS and c) it's a HRT. As Zep and F308 can testify, running this combination isn't doing anything positive for my corner exit speeds, so you might find yourself trying very hard to avoid hitting me.

Then again, you might just crash into me. I'll leave it up to you.

...chaps, did I miss a race? Something PK said makes me think your clocks might have changed without me realising.

Thanks for restarting that Nurburgring session for me, lads. One of you swines spun me out at the first corner, I put my fuel to Mix 1 behind the safety car then forgot to take it off again for 5 laps, I two-stopped by choice when one was the way to go (I started on primes, came in for options and screwed myself by waiting a lap too long and coming in on the same lap as the safety car) and had a pathetic spin on cold tyres, all of which brightened my mood considerably. Nothing like as much as watching PK and Fshguy crash on the last lap would have brightened it, mind. You let me down there, fellas.

I'd like to thank zep for forgetting to add the AI drivers on the second race. It's amazing how much better it feels to finish 7th instead of 24th.
