OT: Google+

Post by pigpen81 »

Having stayed away from the Facebook phenomenon, I am eagerly anticipating Google+ as from the looks of it will allow me to create private groups.

Anyone here anticipating it?

Any opinions on it.

Anyone here already trying the beta and can send me an invite to it? :)

I'm interested as well.

Any chance we could get a DSP circle started in that, and then get the invites from there sent out? If so, could I please get an invite at stevebrown368@gmail.com ?

Do google and privacy go together? I expect any info in those "private" groups will be mined.

LOL, somehow the two don't go together. :)

I'm a Google devotee, but Google+ will need to be KILLER -- far superior to Facebook -- for me to migrate all of my social activity from Facebook. I'm so embedded into Facebook that a move is unlikely, and I'm not interested in spreading myself over yet another social network.

From what I can tell so far, there are definitely similarities with Facebook, whereas FB was a very different experience from MySpace.

Twitter, I kind of put in it's own category. It's different enough that it can exist along side of Facebook, IMHO.

Agreed.

Twitter is much less social for me than Facebook. It's much more of an information bazaar, as I follow a ton of people on Twitter who are not friends. Twitter is more of a very social, real-time RSS feed for me than a social network.

That's my main concern at this point. I like the features of G+ but if I decide to use it I will be very careful about what kind of information I put on it, just like I do with Facebook. It amazes me how much specific personal information some people put on Facebook. I wonder if Facebook will start introducing new features similar to those in G+?

After spending some time with it today, this is going to be HUGE. If this takes off there will be no need for Twitter or Facebook because it would all be in one place. I love how much control you have over who can see what. I can't wait to see it blossom.

I've been on it for a few weeks (my cuz works for google). It seems like an improvement over FB, but I can't help to think FB will simply rip off the advantages of google+. a couple of my friends are trying to use + to "start all over again". I def see the attractiveness of that, but I got fatigue over going to FB, twitter, and + to see what's up. At this point, I just forget to go there..

I got an invite from a friend yesterday and joined. I'm not sure how the invites work yet, but when I click on Circles there is a button that says "Find and invite (89)". I guess that means I have 89 invites??

If anyone wants to pm me their email I will try it.

I'm not sure, but I think I can send an invite any email address, but you'll need to create a google profile to join Google+.

The 89 just means that you have 89 contacts that it found for you to invite. I think somebody would have to be a contact already to invite them. I don't know if invites are open via that route or not but they definitely took away the invite button on the right side of the screen.

I believe I was able to send out invites to Murph and TheTruth just now. I added them by email to my contacts, added them to a newly created DSP circle, and right after doing so an invite button appeared at the bottom of my screen. Hopefully it all works.

It's really easy to invite people.

Click on your circles at the top of the page so you get your list of circles at the bottom with all of your contacts you added above. Double Click on a particular person from your contacts and then it'll give you an "invite" list. Just add as many people as you want. Voila.

Thanks, Naples. It worked. I'm now on Google+....all alone. :D Looks weird to have nothing in the news stream, unlike my Facebook page.

I'm on. Love the circles... this is what my wife's been wanting all along. A way to keep 'em segregated.

Feel free to add me to your DSP circle: sethberkowitz@gmail.com
