Re: R.I.P. those affected by the school shooting in CT

I sat in my sons class today for a project and couldn't help but wonder what that kind of fear feels like. It was chilling just imaging the scenario. There are almost no options to get out of the room besides trying to slip through a window. Considering everything that has been mentioned in this th...

Re: R.I.P. those affected by the school shooting in CT

Incredible bravery. Brings tears to my eyes. Dawn Hochsprung, the Sandy Hook Elementary School principal and a teacher were ultimately slaughtered when they attempted to stop gunman Adam Lanza from killing school children and faculty on Friday morning in Newtown, Connecticut. Hochsprung's husband, ...

Re: R.I.P. those affected by the school shooting in CT

Interesting read from Lt. Col. Dave Grossman. Grossman said (and most cops agree) that many of the most important things we can do to protect our kids would cost us nothing or next-to-nothing. Grossman’s Five D’s In the next installment of this series, I will explore what follows in much greater det...

Re: R.I.P. those affected by the school shooting in CT

I'll say my piece and step out of this thread. Mainly because this hits too close to home for me to make my thoughts totally unbiased. This thread bothers me because it is no longer focused on what it should be, the children. I'm not someone who wants guns banned or pulled away from people but I fi...

Re: DSP Boxing thread. Ding! Ding!

Enjoyed both cards HBO and Showtime had to offer last night. Also happy to see CBS jump back in the ring. Plenty of boxing on TV brings me joy. Merry Christmas to all the DSP fans of the Sweet Science. Yep. Fun, fun day of national and worldwide exposure and competition for a so-called "dead sport....

Re: R.I.P. those affected by the school shooting in CT

Paul. We will agree to disagree. Trust me it's not a guaranteed right. Myself and thousands of other soldiers diagnosed with PTSD cannot buy a shotgun let alone a pistol or rifle. Ironic huh? We are deemed unsafe in a country we protected. Remember when I was shot in front of my family back in Detro...

Re: R.I.P. those affected by the school shooting in CT

Chicago and NYC have the strictest gun laws in this country. How's that working out? From an October news report: Homicides in New York City have plummeted 18 percent in 2012 over the same period last year and, with three months left in the year, are at a rate among the lowest seen in the post-Worl...

Israel also has much stiffer civilian gun laws than the U.S.: http://www.gunpolicy.org/firearms/region/israel http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/wonkblog/wp/2012/12/14/mythbusting-israel-and-switzerland-are-not-gun-toting-utopias/ http://www.jta.org/news/article/2012/07/24/3101546/despite-militari...

Re: R.I.P. those affected by the school shooting in CT

Absolutely. Provided the teacher goes through background checks. I'm a huge proponent of conceal-carry permits. When an idiot knows that there is a guarantee that there are mo re guns, and people trained to use them, than he has, you have an automatic deterrent. No one but a fool would try to shoot...

Re: DSP Boxing thread. Ding! Ding!

Fights like Andre Berto-Robert Guerrero remind me why boxers are the bravest athletes on Earth -- by far -- and why boxing is the greatest sport on this planet. Astonishing fight Saturday night. If you have lost faith in boxing's ability to inspire, amaze and entertain, watch this fight on HBO GO o...

I thought it was a good stoppage. Alvarado couldn't seem to get his left up to protect himself from the bombs Rios was tagging him with at the end. I also had Rios down 4-2. I definitely want to see a rematch.
