Re: Racing Sim Thread, Part II

The AI seems very solid. I don't see rubberband ai, but it seems like your "rival" can catch up at a pretty crazy pace at times. It could be due to their car having better stats. As it is, the racing is fun and fair. When you win, you feel like you deserve it. Exactly. I think I'm about 9 seasons i...

Re: Racing Sim Thread, Part II

Has anyone been to a real WoO race? There's a track way up north from me called Jackson. Looks pretty cool Not only been to one--shared the track with them decades ago. In the 80s when the Outlaws came to Santa Maria Speedway, my family was running a little POS sprint car. Total "family car". Bungi...

Re: Racing Sim Thread, Part II

I'm not especially good at loose surface driving so had already checked my ego at the door, but the Skilled difficulty has me thinking I'll be here for a long time before I consider trying the two levels above it. One thing with this game that took me a bit to figure out, especially on a controller...

Re: Racing Sim Thread, Part II

Nah. But it's faster than the "non-career 305" you'd drive, in my experience. I'm on 'stage 4' of the 305 upgrade path, as I haven't unlocked Nationals yet so I couldn't buy stage 5. And it's about the same times I get in quick races on 305s. Lately, I've started just racing quick races with "normal...

Re: Racing Sim Thread, Part II

But as pk has alluded to before, I'm not much of a sim guy. I just don't enjoy replicating real life in a game any more. I like simple, fire and forget, with enough sim to make it feel like I'm driving. That's the thing. I'm still WAY into this....like, big time. Still doing major iRacing leagues o...

Re: Racing Sim Thread, Part II

OK, I'm glad I'm not crazy  I keep coming back to this, and Don--I'm just racing with a plain old controller but I only have it on PS5. I'd have no problem picking it up on XBox if this is actually gonna be a thing. I think for the most part, the only thing I have is 10% of the first meter, wha...

Re: Racing Sim Thread, Part II

Playing THE SH*T out of it. It's so, so much better than the prior ones. You actually can get the car loose now, and there's a fine line between losing time because you kicked the rears out too much and gaining tons of lap time. I kid you not...I'm playing full length seasons, and I'm already in sea...

Re: Racing Sim Thread, Part II

I'll have to give that one a go at some point. I've had it since release but never dabbled in it much. I just barely got around to really giving ACC a go for a league season, and that's fun, but man....so different compared to iRacing (specifically the braking model and how the ABS is more 'modern' ...

Re: Who's left from Sportsreviewers on here 22 years later?

We're all old as f*ck. That is the only certainty anymore. When I spent like 10 years reviewing stuff on OS, helping build it from nothing to what it became along with Steve over there, it feels like a lifetime ago. Somehow stumbled onto SR and that seems like the golden age of online gaming/discuss...

Re: Madden 23

Also...didn't even expand on this...the "freeform passing" allows you to control placement and accuracy. I have found I bullet the ball WAY too much, especially when facing pressure. If you have the skill based passing set to placement & accuracy, a bullet has a much higher inaccuracy chance. Combin...

Re: Madden 23

Having a blast, but almost exclusively because of the freeform passing and MUCH improved pass rushing. I haven't seen a CPU QB complete almost everything on me. Usually they're scrambling for the hills because Crosby and Chandler Jones are closing uber-quickly. I think the most I've had is Mahomes g...

consulting time on some sim rig upgrading advice as I am looking to potentially add some things for immersion, but still on a tight budget(approx $800) and looking for the most bang for buck. Particularly looking at being able to add one of the following: dedicated cockpit (with ability for future ...

Re: Racing Sim Thread, Part II

I've just gotta share this, because I've apparently reached the summit of Mount Everest when it comes to nerd-dom with sim racing. Over the weekend, I spent some time installing a full 4-post motion platform on my rig--and then dialing in the settings to give myself just a bit of 'seat of pants' fee...

Re: Racing Sim Thread, Part II

That's all I saw from the limited time I played it--the controls were cool, but the AI was just stabbing the brake mid-corner, I was tasked with coming last-to-first driving a sh*tbucket of a car. Not really my type of game, and what I saw was a lot of the same linear, follow-the-leader processions ...

Re: Racing Sim Thread, Part II

I don't think Terry has either a PS5 or GT7 because I would love to get his opinion. I've been playing GT7 since launch and I have got to say it is by far the BEST racing AI I have seen in any racing game, console or PC. I know I might get some blowback but Forza's Drivatar isn't even this good. I ...

Re: Elden Ring

I still haven't figured out how to upgrade my weapons! You find smithing stones all over. You use some of those to upgrade your weapon to +1 and +2, I think. Then you find higher level smithing stones to go +3, +4, +5, +10, etc. Past the first couple of upgrades, you have to use the Blacksmith in r...

Re: Elden Ring

If you miss the first appearance of Renna, you can buy the summon bell and the wolves from the creepy vendor lady in Roundtable Hold. It's like the difference in spending 1,500 runes instead of getting it for free, though.

Re: Racing Sim Thread, Part II

Yeah, that's been my fear for some time now. My PC setup is...well, it's something else. I've got triple 50" 4K 120Hz displays on it so everything around me is basically where it would be in a full sized car (rear view mirror is where it would be, passenger mirror, etc.). Pictures never do scale jus...

Re: Racing Sim Thread, Part II

Digital Foundry just posted a comparison video of the Next-Gen enhanced versions of Assetto Corsa Competitzione to each other and to OG PS4 and XBox One, and XBox One X. It looks like the PS5 got a little extra benefit on both the graphics and the performance. It's an interesting piece if you'd lik...

Re: Elden Ring

This is what set me off on the right foot from the beginning. I basically did this loop early on, which made the rest of the game much less soul-crushing. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tx9IsK8qhg4 It basically gets you a +4 weapon, a few flasks and upgrades them to +2. Then I got started "for real...

Re: Racing Sim Thread, Part II

Played my Masters difficulty round late this morning and it went about like I expected. I shot a 73 on the par 71 course, which was one stroke higher than Db and 10spro's 72s. I saw Danimal at 77 after I finished my round. I somehow managed to hit 71% FIRs, but all but one of my fairway misses were...

Re: Elden Ring

It shows you the yellow line from any grace point to the direction of the next main goal, but I wouldn't follow that. Most of the game is just exploring and making your character stronger. No real direction to go for that. I just went a little further out each time, cleared a camp, rested....went ba...

Re: Elden Ring

Yeah it's definitely not something that explains anything to you. You find a map by any 'pylon' you see on the grayed-out-area of a map. It will always show on the undiscovered map so you know where to go get the actual map of the area. You have to buy the crafting kit from the first merchant you st...

Re: Elden Ring

Yeah, never pushed this much in any Souls game. I'm level 61 I think at the moment and just absolutely wrecking every room/area I set eyes on... ...until I run into something that one-hits me, and then I have to go and change up everything I'm doing. I love that this game never lets you really get c...
