To use your analogy, maybe it will turn out to be gasoline but if the other choice is letting it burn down, I can understand why they are doing it, human nature is to do something when problems occur. Trying to use short term solutions to fix long term systemic problems may not work but I'm not sure...

Nothing at this point would surprise me. It's clear we are dealing with a problem that no one has dealt with before (recently, and the global scale of it), maybe nobody is qualified to deal with, and the all of the options on the table may not work and they just happen to be very unpopular political...

I'm not advocating believing in anything on faith. However, if you want to know something you go to the person who studies it every day. Then, because it's science, the experts in the field argue and try to disprove each other and poke holes in their each others arguments until they figure out where...

I love how people think they understand one of the most complicated sciences on the planet, and understand it so well that they know the science is flawed. Obviously, everyone (other than climate scientists) have to rely on other people to form an opinion, but "climate skeptics" happen to choose peo...

Anyone have any reccomendations on a good entry level economics book? I'm not looking to take up any classes or get a degree, just looking for a good read that will help me get a better handle on the subject. This is kind of like a class but you'll learn the basics ($99): http://www.teach12.com/ttc...

http://seattletimes.nwsource.com/html/politics/2008332674_apelectionrdp.html In terms of turnout, America voted in record numbers. It looks like 136.6 million Americans will have voted for president this election, based on 88 percent of the country's precincts tallied and projections for absentee ba...

http://www.fivethirtyeight.com/ They are putting Obama's win percentage at 94.1% at this point. So I guess it's looking good for the socialist/communists out there. And even Bill Kristol agrees: http://www.nytimes.com/2008/10/13/opinion/13kristol.html?ref= The Obama team is well organized, flush wit...

Both parties (well they actually probably operate outside of the typical left v. right) have their crazies, trying to "judge" the amount of crazy really comes down to what flavor of crazy you dislike more. Ultimately extreme views originate more on emotion than reason and lack evidence to support th...

Obviously the daily show has a bias, but they don't just make up their material out of thin air. McCain has a longer record than Obama and it's easy to pick apart, as you can see here: <embed FlashVars='videoId=184113' src='http://www.thedailyshow.com/sitewide/video_player/view/default/swf.jhtml' qu...

For a little debate preview, I forgot how heated it got.....I can't wait until McCain plays the Ayers card. Surely McCain wouldn't be so dumb as to get into this whole "obama is a terrorist" bit in the debate (he'll save it for later). Palin is already being questioned as a racist on talk radio tod...

Also, I'm not arguing for her to be the moderator. I just don't think it's some giant crisis. Given her past history I think she'll be fine, but we'll find out. Explain that. That makes no sense to me. What is supposed to do, stare into his eyes and see his soul? No, not at all. But he wouldn't even look in his direction. A glance towards Obama once or twice was all I was expecting. And I'm not saying it was all that "important"...just that it's rather awk...

I can't even begin to understand how the Democrats have managed to fumble away this year's presidential election.
