Re: Retro Gaming

Been using the ePSXe Playstation One emulator on an old computer to play ESPN MLS Gamenight (The US "equivalent" of Winning Eleven 4 (Japan) and ISS Pro Evolution (Europe)).The gameplay still seems first-class to me, almost 25 years down the road.

Re: OT: Pro Tennis Thread

Sinner's really made progress in the last six months or so, turning a 0-6 H2H with Medvedev into a 4-6, doing something similar with Djokovic and he's won the last two meetings with Alcaraz to lead 4-3 in their H2H. He's been capable of beating anyone for a while, but he's suddenly become the guy to...

Re: OT: Pro Tennis Thread

Sinner's been around for a few years now. Was two sets to love up against Djokovic in the quarters of Wimbledon 2022: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tVVZ8rZDgZE The consensus seems to be that he's made improvements to his serve, his volley and his sliced backhand, in addition to maturing as a playe...

Re: OT: Pro Tennis Thread

Good to see Sinner building on a fantastic end to last year. Third win in four meetings with Djokovic since November, I think. The big question was whether he could do it over five sets on the big stage. Bit sorry for Zverev, who played amazingly to beat Alcaraz and looked a likely winner for most o...

Re: OT: Pro Tennis Thread

The question of hunger is interesting. No doubt some players have more than others. I was impressed by Gasquet winning the ATP 250 in Auckland this year. A guy who didn't quite achieve what many people predicted he would 18 years ago but he's still capable of going through the grind to win an ATP to...

Re: OT: Pro Tennis Thread

Watched the final from the front row yesterday (not sure if there's an option to upload a video or image). Awesome match from any perspective but immense at court-side level. Glad that Carlitos made a statement by beating Novak at his best (I really believe that) but Novak was very close to winning...

Re: OT: Pro Tennis Thread

Unfortunate ending for Alcaraz, who had managed to weather the storm created by a magnificent Djokovic at the beginning of the match and get back on level terms before falling victim to cramp. Novak now has to be recognized as the GOAT in terms of GS and Masters 1000 titles won, barring a spectacula...

Re: OT: Pro Tennis Thread

Big day tomorrow in Paris. In the absence of Nadal, perhaps another Spaniard will bring the curtain down on the era of the big three. In many ways, I feel that Rafa, Nole and Fed were lucky that Alcaraz didn't come on the scene earlier. Djokovic might prove me slightly wrong tomorrow. The other semi...

Re: PGA TOUR 2K21

Picked this up in a bargain bin the other day after reading a few very positive reviews. Had no idea the latest version was due for release. Only played about four rounds of golf in my entire life, though a fair bit of pitch and putt (not sure if you have that in the US) when I was a young kid. Have...

Re: eFootball

Downloaded the efootball 2023 update today (29 GB...phew) and played an offline match on Regular difficulty. Thought it was pretty enjoyable. Still no offline modes, bar friendlies. Apparently Master League is going to be available in 2023, by which time I'm not sure if people will still remember PE...

Re: OT: Pro Tennis Thread

If we look back through the years on this site, and I particularly remember exchanging comments with 10s and others during the 2009 US Open final between Fed and Del Potro, probably none of us would have expected Roger to be announcing his retirement in 2022. We've been lucky to have him for so long...

Re: OT: Pro Tennis Thread

Interesting questions wco. I think in terms of combined forehand/backhand power, Alcaraz is hitting bigger off the ground than those guys did. After last year's US Open match, Tsitsipas commented that nobody had ever hit the ball harder against him. His serve is more vulnerable than theirs, but he d...

Re: OT: Pro Tennis Thread

I know what you're saying about Alcaraz going for too much on the forehand sometimes 10s but I also think that it might be risky to try to curb those instincts and tell him to go for less. Amazing victory, given that he played three consecutive five setters and saved a match point in the quarters ag...

Re: OT: Pro Tennis Thread

I remember some of those French Open rallies from back in the day too 10s, when clay and grass were so different, it was unthinkable that anybody could be equally good on both surfaces. Borg was incredible in that respect. When I saw the Ruud vs Khachanov rally, it brought to mind this one from the ...

Re: OT: Pro Tennis Thread

That 55-stroke rally was amazing 10s, considering that they were both being very offensive. Good call on Ruud too. He was very impressive. Regularly knocking down first serves at 128 mph. Didn't realise he could serve that big and he volleyed a lot better than I would have expected too. Seems very c...

Re: OT: Pro Tennis Thread

That was an amazing match between Sinner and Alcaraz. Maybe the hardest-hitting exchanges off the ground ever in a tennis match (probably no stat for that). Tiafoe has been playing incredible tennis. Nobody really getting near him. Thought Rafa might when he was a break up in the third but Francis j...

Re: OT: Pro Tennis Thread

Looking forward to the US Open. Serena's last??? And I'm by no means anti-vax, far from it, but it seems strange that Djokovic was allowed to play last year but can't participate this year. The battle for the GOAT on the mens' side has become a bit adulterated. Doesn't really bother me because I kno...

Re: OT: Pro Tennis Thread

Seems incredible that three of the four 2022 grand slam events have been played and Nadal and Djokovic are still ruling the roost. Medvedev does seem to be a real challenge on hard courts and I think he's got a champion's mentality so it'll be interesting to see if he and Alcaraz can take it to thes...

Re: OT: Pro Tennis Thread

How can Rafa not be the favorite now? I really feel for Sasha as they were playing a great match that was perhaps going to go the distance the way these two guys were hitting the ball. But the way he rolled that ankle, man I just felt the pain from my living room, that was painful to watch. Ruud di...

Re: OT: Pro Tennis Thread

The quarters between Nadal-Djoko went well past midnight French time and it was…fantastic. As usual these two put out a show, as the match went back and forth. The #1 player in the world had a very good chance to win the forth set but we all know how Rafa fights for every inch of the court especial...

Re: OT: Pro Tennis Thread

Great match and an amazing comeback by Rafa. Both of them were clearly feeling it physically after the first two sets so the next three hours or so must have been tough as hell. Arguably the biggest achievement of Rafa's career, given how Roland Garros played out and how he came into the tournament,...

Re: Best Winning Eleven game on PS2?

All of them were pretty good but I guess Winning Eleven 7 and 9 (PES 3 and 5) were widely considered the best. All of them had the Master League format of starting at the bottom and working your way up the leagues. One of them (Winning Eleven 6 I think or maybe it was 7) had three divisions rather t...

Re: OT: Pro Tennis Thread

Shapovalov did really well to come back from 5-3 down to win the second. Agree the match with Rafa should be a cracker. They've had a few great matches in the past but as far as I know, this is the first meeting in a slam. Thought Madison Keys looked really good against Paula Badosa. Like the kind o...
